The pollution rate in the Büyük Menderes river reached the fourth degree. Environmental engineer Nilgün Böcekli said: “The Büyük Menderes river has become a garbage disposal center. After a few years we will hardly be able to find water to drink,” he said.

The Büyük Menderes River, which emerges from the Dinar district of Afyonkarahisar and flows through Uşak, Denizli and Aydın into the Aegean Sea, has experienced one of its most polluted periods in recent years.
Turkey will suffer a drought in the province of irrigation used in the Aydin Menderes river over the pollution rate of the plain indicated worrying for the future of up to 4th degree.
TOTAL 460 THOUSAND LIRA PENALTIES LAST YEAR
While the upper part of the river turns white due to chemicals mixed with the sewage, the color of the water changes from pollution to black worries those who see it. It was reported that the metropolitan municipality of Aydın was fined 460 thousand lire last year with the complaint from the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization that Aydın’s sewage was discharged into the Büyük Menderes river without treatment according to the regulations.
“ IT IS DIRTY AFTER KILOMETER 100 ”
Environmental engineer Nilgun buggy, Turkey recalled that the general threat of drought, water shortage, said that our biggest problem would be available in the future.
Böcekli said: “For water, we need to work in the treatment facilities of our current ministries and municipalities. We know that our streams are heavily polluted. The Büyük Menderes river within the Büyük Menderes basin is 584 kilometers long and begins to become polluted after kilometer 100. The biggest cause of pollution; It is the discharge of industrial wastewater into the Büyük Menderes river. The reasons are that many treatment plants do not work properly, the correct irrigation is not done in agriculture, solid waste is thrown into the Menderes River and the like. Here, the contamination event is the last stage, the fourth degree. We have very small streams. “We cause pollution by dumping our waste into these streams without hesitation.”
“ WE WILL GO WHERE WE CANNOT FIND DRINKING WATER ”
Noting that climate change will cause us to become dehydrated in the future, Nilgün Böcekli pointed out that air pollution will also alter the ecological balance. Stating that “if we don’t take air and water pollution measures, we will hardly be able to find drinking water after a few years,” said Böcekli, “the treatment facilities cannot function properly. Wastewater from these areas must be treated properly and used again in agricultural areas. 70 percent of fresh water resources for agricultural irrigation in Turkey, 15 percent in industrial plants, the remaining 15 percent is also used in individual areas. Disposal methods are hardly used in many municipalities in Turkey. The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the municipalities should work on this. During the period of the Minister of Environment and Urban Planning, Veysel Eroğlu, 13 dams were built in Aydın. You need to collect rainwater in this regard. ”
” WE NEED TO PREVENT WATER WASTE ”
Environmental engineer Nilgün Böcekli stated that water waste must be avoided from today to avoid problems in the future. Emphasizing that the water consumption per person is between 250 and 300 liters, Böcekli said: “Our water waste is too much. All institutions, especially our President, the Ministry of the Interior, artists and the business world must jointly undertake an awareness-raising project. Currently, the occupancy rate of our dams is between 20 and 30 percent. Dams must be above 30 percent of the water level in order to function efficiently. When it drops below 30 percent, drought will come before us in the future. 80 percent of all living things in nature consist of water. Thirst means that we cannot survive in the future. ”
” THE GREAT MENDERES RIVER IS FULL OF WASTE ”
Underlining that the Büyük Menderes river has become the garbage disposal center, Böcekli explained the measures to be taken as follows:
“There are small streams formed by sewage that only flow into Büyük Menderes. It is necessary to examine where and how they are polluted and meandering. If we do something in 2021; next year we can reduce the drought by 2 percent. Actually, this is a huge number at 2 percent. Not only in Turkey around the world, it is necessary to be sensitive to the drought of mankind. ‘Hot black desert sea’ when we mean that Turkey has no flora of its own. For this, the extinction of trees, animal species and insects; it means that humans will live in difficult conditions in the future. ”
