In the Çaldıran district of Van, the air temperature during the day is below zero and minus 40 degrees at night, while production continues in the greenhouses that were established 4 years ago and heated with geothermal energy. Ercan Karahanlı, who is the manager of the greenhouse’s production and work program, said that they have produced 1,200 tons of tomatoes this year, and said that they are happy to produce despite the cold outside.
Tomato production started in geothermal heated greenhouses in 2016 in the Ayrancılar district of the Caldıran district of Van, with a project supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
Greenhouses heated by laying 20 thousand meters of pipes in an area of 34 thousand square meters cost 10 million lira. The soilless and bee pollinated tomatoes are produced using completely natural methods in the district.
In the district, where agriculture is not very common due to weather conditions, production continues despite the fact that the air temperature drops to minus 25 degrees during the day and minus 40 at night.
Greenhouse tomatoes are produced in the last year, and the Van from Turkey participated in the important positions in the production of vegetables in Antalya.

We have produced a very good production with these negative advantages. We have shown that we can do it. We have received 1200 tons of products since June.
