According to the information obtained by the AA correspondent, ASELSAN carries out activities that will facilitate day-to-day life in cities with the activities it carries out in the field of intelligent transportation systems.
The traffic management systems developed by ASELSAN perform functions such as incident detection, road / weather conditions measurement, traffic data measurement, intersection assistance control, passenger information / guidance and video management to use the roads more effectively and prevent traffic accidents.
Within the scope of automation systems, vehicle and license plate recognition, advanced agricultural automation, disaster and emergency management systems are developed and put into service.
ASELSAN started mass production of traffic management devices with certificates from the Turkish Standardization Institute at the end of the work done. In this context, users were offered an intersection control device, variable traffic signals / messages and traffic signaling systems. The first installation of the products was carried out in Kırıkkale within the scope of the contracted project.
Installed intersection control devices provide traffic management both at the intersection and on the city scale by communicating with each other. Unlike the use of predetermined plans, which is the method generally used in the industry, the system works in real time with a fully adaptive model. Using various sensors such as cameras and loop detectors and image processing technologies, the duration of traffic lights at subsequent intersections is instantly determined from the vehicle density information coming from the intersections. For example, if there is no vehicle in one of the intersection branches, the green light does not come on for that direction to increase the efficiency of the traffic flow.
Based on data collected before and after the use of the crossing control device at specified intersections, on average 26 percent in delays per vehicle, 16 percent in the number of stops per vehicle, 510 liters in total daily consumption of fuel and 1,220 kilograms in total daily carbon dioxide emissions decrease.
